I feel like pre-Yuuri giving input into his program choices, he probably did a lot of warhorses. Yuuri was like ‘idk you decide’ and his team was just like ‘okay I guess it’s Turandot this year’. Then people agonized because Japan’s Ace Yuuri Katsuki DESERVES BETTER PROGRAMS.

This was also immediately obvious because Yuuri choreographed and chose a lot of his own exhibition programs (which he wasn’t comfortable doing with competitive ones), and they were always so much better than his competitive programs. But yeah, even with the warhorses and could-be-better choreo Yuuri made everyone cry at the beauty of his skating and he had the best musicality around.

He’d take programs that weren’t actually that great and elevate them to a whole other level, so everyone was like “IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF HE HAD BETTER MATERIAL.”
