sweet-vitya:

ok but sports media so badly wants to play up the competition angle between victor and yuuri after victor returns to the ice. there’s a lot of nasty speculation from several publications (not to mention online fandom) about how their budding relationship might fracture under the strain of competition. they search so hard for any trace of resentment or disappointment when they compete against each other… but they just never find it.

when yuuri wins gold, victor looks up at him from second place with nothing but sheer pride and adoration in his eyes, and yuuri does the same when it’s victor at the top of the podium. of course they have their pride as professional athletes, of course they want to win, but honestly, the rush of pride each of them gets from watching his husband perform at the top of his game and be recognized for that? it is worth so much more than any medal.

it takes a long time for the media to stop trying to pit them against one another, nearly right up until victor retires for good. but through all of that, victor and yuuri never ever stop being each other’s number one fan and cheerleader, no matter what happens.
