I can’t believe there weren’t more people going wild about the roar of victory Yuuri lets out after the GPF free skate (I think it’s maybe more evident in the dub). The first time I watched it I genuinely got chills. Here’s this skate he’s poured his heart and soul into, persevered with even though it was shelved the season before, literally BLED for… and of course, the skate that elevated his relationship with Victor to something magical- and on top of all that, he only goes and knocks the quad flip out of the park. Dude KNOWS he fucking nailed it.

If I knew where to find a GIF I’d absolutely post it, but I remain ignorant of where to find such things.

Not to mention it’s the first time Yuuri’s truly satisfied with his own skating, at least in my opinion. What does he do after previous skates? Let’s see:

• Stays in his ending pose until getting off the ice (most of the time it’s this option)
• Collapses onto the ice, crying in disappointment (after his SP in E11)
• Looks down in shame (in Yurio’s flashback from the Sochi GPF in E12)

Those don’t indicate any level of pride in his skating. In fact, the last two scream dissatisfaction and self-loathing. He’s not happy with how he skated. He knows he can do better.

But after his Barcelona GPF FS Yuuri lifts his head and raises his arms, fists clenched. He lets out this roar of triumph. He’s crying, yes, but not in disappointing or sadness. They’re tears of joy, pride, and maybe they’re a little bittersweet—but then again, he’s thinking he might never skate with Victor at his side again.

Yuuri knows this was truly “the skating [he liked] best.” He knew it finally represented the full extent of his abilities. That skate was supposed to be “the final skate of [his] career”, sure, but it was going to be the best swan song ever—his best performance.

So yeah, he lets out a shout, a scream of victory. Yuuri has finally proven to the world—and more importantly, himself—that he’s a top tier skater, deserving of the title “Japan’s Ace.”
