Can ya’ll feedback on an idea?
I wanted to raise some money for a women’s shelter overseas that is in desperate need of a new playground for the babies. Before I left, we got a tiny grant for some stuff but it was not able to cover shipping costs (complicated bureaucratic issue). A group of us is thinking of just funding the shipping on our own. There’s around ten of us that volunteered consistently and probably a few more that have taken over now, so we can each chip in and get it done! The current playground is rusty and dangerous. I want to make a donation, but I have family that I’m also helping out and, as such, probably can’t offer too much. So, I figured… maybe I can work for some money to supplement my contribution!
The idea was to —
Auction 5 envelopes with super cute Christmas cards AND a printed, super secret, completely unique 3k piece of fiction, can either be fanfiction OR original (your call, doing original too for anyone lurking that isn’t into YoI but still follows me here awaiting for news on other stuff).
Sort of like a MYSTERY ENVELOPE only with stories! 🙂
Bids would start at $6 (is that reasonable?).
I could also do a few shorter e-pieces for anyone worried about shipping costs (envelopes tend to be lower in cost but I know it’s hard to front international shipping costs). But I kind of liked the idea of the mystery in receiving something physical, printed.
Sharing the post is welcome. Your feedback is super appreciated. If there’s no interest, then I’ll have to get smarter and figure out other fundraising ideas. But I think it’d be great to have the women and kids know there’s something coming their way for the holidays.
For those that have been following this space, this is the same shelter I was helping at before. 💖 I’m happy to discuss a few details privately, but to protect the people in question (some are sad cases of human trafficking, fam), no pictures are taken and I wouldn’t be sharing any, so if that’s a point of discomfort, please let me know, but that wouldn’t be changing, given that the shelter is clear about no pictures on social media.
Thanks for your time, fam!
